What personal data is collected and why

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site, the data contained in the comment form is saved, as well as the IP address and browser user agent, to help with spam detection.

An anonymised string created from your email address (also called a hash) can be sent to the Gravatar service to check if you are using it. The Gravatar service’s privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. Once your comment has been approved, your profile picture will be visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Multimedia

When uploading images to the site, you should avoid uploading images with embedded geolocalisation data (EXIF GPS). Visitors can download and extract geolocation data from images on the site.

Analytical data
How long your data is retained

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are stored indefinitely. This is so that we can automatically recognise and approve any subsequent comments, rather than placing them in a moderation queue.

For users who register on our site (if any), we store the personal information provided in their user profile. All users can view, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (with the exception that they cannot change their username). Site administrators can also view and edit this information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can ask to receive an export file with the personal data stored about you, including any personal data you have indicated. You can also ask for the stored data to be deleted. This does not include any personal data that is required to be kept for administrative, legal or security purposes.

Where your data is sent

Visitor comments can be checked by an automatic spam detection service.
